Reference: Apartment Building in Prague Old Town

A project reference describing survey constraints, data capture, point-cloud processing and limitations in a historic occupied building.

Historic occupied buildings combine irregular geometry, limited access and operational constraints. A successful survey requires planning as much as scanning.

Brief

The objective was to create a consistent spatial basis for subsequent documentation and asset use.

Capture

3D scanning, control measurements and photography were combined. Uncertain areas were recorded for verification rather than invented.

Processing

The point cloud was registered, cleaned and checked across floors, stairs, openings and principal dimensions.

Limitations

Scanning does not reveal concealed build-ups, hidden services, material inside walls or the legal status of past alterations.

Lessons

Coordinate access, record inaccessible areas and distinguish measured, inherited and inferred information.

Need deliverables that remain usable

Before commissioning the work, define the purpose, survey scope, required accuracy, deliverable formats and acceptance checks in writing. DigiStav provides surveying, building records, 2D documentation, point clouds and BIM-ready outputs for buildings, infrastructure and industrial assets. The scope should always follow the intended use rather than a generic package.

This article provides general technical information. It is not a substitute for project-specific legal, surveying, engineering or professional-authorisation advice.
